About the National Mark of Malaysian Brand

SME Corporation Malaysia, in collaboration with SIRIM QAS International Sdn. Bhd. has developed the National Mark of MALAYSIAN BRAND certification programme. It promotes the development of Malaysian brands to meet international quality standards. The certification programme is an effort to assist Malaysian brands to increase their market reach and compete on a global platform.

Participating organisations fulfilling the required criteria can display the National Mark of MALAYSIAN BRAND on their product packaging and marketing collaterals. Thus, indicating that their products meet the benchmark of the certification. The National Mark of MALAYSIAN BRANDS represents the highest standards of Quality, Excellence and Distinction. 

Through this association, more local brands stand a chance to build brand equity and dispel notions of being inferior quality. The Malaysian Government endorses the certification programme through SME Corporation Malaysia and its partners. 

Among the prerequisites for participating in the certification programmes, organisations must have:

  • a minimum of a 3-star rating under SME Corp’s SCORE rating programme
  • existing quality standards such as ISO 9000

For organisations to acquire the rights of displaying the Mark, they must submit to a series of evaluations and audits. The process will evaluate the organisation’s adherence to strict quality standards and criteria. Through this effort, the Malaysian Government hopes to help Malaysian brands to grow, penetrate and compete on a global platform.

Among the prerequisites for participating in the certification programmes, organisations must have:

  • a minimum of a 3-star rating under SME Corp’s SCORE rating programme
  • existing quality standards such as ISO 9001

For organisations to acquire the rights of displaying the Mark, they must submit to a series of evaluations and audits. The process will evaluate the organisation’s adherence to strict quality standards and criteria.

Through this effort, the Malaysian Government hopes to help Malaysian brands to grow, penetrate new markets and compete globally. Award recipients will also receive other benefits, including trade promotional activities and assistance in terms of expertise. There are several prerequisites for the application of the certification under the  National Mark of MALAYSIAN BRAND scheme. The requirements may differ according to the company and the nature of business. 

  1. The business must have a minimum 3-STAR rating under SME Corporation’s SCORE programme, which is still valid.
  1. Must have an international standards certification such as:
  • For companies in any sector with Certified ISO 9001 or equivalent
  • For companies in the Food Sector with HACCP or ISO 22000
  • For companies in the Automotive Supply Chain with IATF 16949
  • For companies in the Medical Device Sector with ISO 13485
  1. The business incorporated/registered under the following:
  • Companies Act 1965 (Act 125)
  • Registration of Business Act 1965 (Act 197) or
  • Certificate(s) of Practice from Professional Bodies.
  1. Malaysian equity > 60%
  1. The business must be operating from legal premises.
  1. The company must own a registered brand.
  1. The company must have a good business performance (covering all aspects such as sales, profit & cash flow) for three (3) consecutive years.
  1. The company must portray a Malaysian identity that is represented by the company name, brand name and/or brand logo. The company must showcase Malaysian elements/identity/cultures and not be seen promoting products/services from other countries.
