E-cigarette device
E-cigarette device is a battery-powered device that provides inhaled doses of non-nicotine substance by way of vapourised solution. (Definition by standard MS 2716:2019)
The e-cigarette device consists of two significant components i.e atomiser and body. It may cause hazards that lead to a serious risk to the user if there is any malfunction to its part.
Safety Requirement
The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) has gazetted the safety requirement for e-cigarette device under the Trade Descriptions (Certification and Marking of Electronic Cigarette) Order 2022. (Download here).
Locally manufactured or imported e-cigarette device shall comply with the Trade Descriptions by 3 August 2022. All e-cigarette device must be tested and certified according to MS 2716:2019 for safety requirements. The certified e-cigarette device shall be labelled with SIRIM MS mark before it can be sold and offered to the market.
Scope of Services
As a one-stop centre, SIRIM can perform testing and certification on e-cigarette device with the following scopes: –
1- Electrical Test
- Evaluating risk associated with structural integrity such as drop test, risk of burns, ECU malfunction, and accessories incompatibility.
2- Mechanical Test
- Evaluating risk associated with filling, risk of injury, the risk associated with sealing, vibration test and shock test.
3- Chemical Test
- The mouthpiece should be food-grade compliance.
4- Functional Test
- All functions stated on the brochure should be working as declared.
5- Wireless Connectivity Test-communication module
- Applicable for devices that have Bluetooth, WIFI or any communication module.
